This is my re-interpretation of “Bring Me Little Water Silvy,” the American traditional folk ballad made famous by Lead Belly. In introducing the song, Lead Belly said it was about an enslaved man working in the fields, calling for his woman to bring him some water. Today most American field workers are Spanish-speaking immigrants, including some of my relatives. So I reimagined Silvy as a bilingual folk song to remember and honor the farm workers of yesterday and today.
